[WATER OUR FOCUS]

Sydney Water ProMac Trunk Main

Delivering a critical trunk water connection linking the Prospect South and Macarthur distribution systems to support Western Sydney’s future growth.
Sydney Water
Cecil Park – Kemps Creek, New South Wales

4.5km Steel Trunk Water Main (DN600–DN1250)

[Project Background]

Connecting Major Sydney Water Distribution Systems

Sydney Water initiated the Prospect–Macarthur (ProMac) trunk water program to link the Prospect South Water Distribution System with the Macarthur system, enabling the transfer of up to 120 ML/day of drinking water between the networks.

This strategic connection strengthens supply resilience while supporting rapid population growth across the South West Growth Area, Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Liverpool CBD, and Menangle Park. The infrastructure forms a critical backbone for future potable water supply across Western Sydney.

[Scope Of Works]
Operating in Sensitive and Live environments

Delivery of large-diameter trunk water pipelines supporting long-term water supply across Western Sydney growth areas.

Installation of 4.5km DN600–DN1250 steel water pipelines
In-situ welding and installation of Sintakote and Sintalock pipe systems
Construction of creek crossings, valve infrastructure, and cathodic protection systems
Connection and commissioning of new trunk mains within the live Sydney Water network
Project Technical Snapshot

Construction of a high-capacity trunk water pipeline forming part of Sydney Water’s strategic network expansion.

[Outcome / Key Features]
Principal Contractor Delivery of Major Trunk Infrastructure
Outcome
  • Self-performed installation of 4.5km steel trunk water pipeline across multiple diameters (DN600–DN1250)
  • SINTAKOTE and SINTALOCK coated pipelines welded in situ
  • Installation of Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV), flowmeter and associated electrical connections
  • Cathodic protection system installed to ensure long-term asset integrity
  • Pipeline crossings delivered beneath two creek corridors up to 6 metres deep
Key Features
  • Delivered as Principal Contractor with full self-perform capability
  • Pipeline installation through residential areas and critical RMS road crossings
  • Complex stakeholder coordination with Liverpool City Council, RMS, Jemena, Sydney Metro and local institutions
  • Community-sensitive construction including school zone management and restricted working hours
  • Access coordination across private properties to maintain pipeline alignment
  • Spoil management and controlled excavation across the full corridor
[Environmental Responsibility]
Environmental controls across sensitive corridor crossings
Environmental management measures were implemented throughout construction, including controlled works within sensitive creek corridors and mitigation strategies for areas affected by Phytophthora pathogen contamination. These controls ensured the trunk infrastructure was delivered while protecting surrounding ecosystems and maintaining environmental compliance.
