Project Background
As part of the South West Growth Centre plan by the NSW Government to release land for residential development, Sydney Water had to create sewerage infrastructure in the Camden Region. A new lead-in to the sewer carrier had to be installed in Spring Farm to connect the new developments already underway or planned.

Scope Of Works

- Our project scope involved the construction of launch and receive pits for tunnel boring and 10 sewer cast-insitu manholes up to 14 metres deep.
- Caisson Shaft Construction – 14m deep with challenging ground conditions (in sandy conditions and groundwater).
- Sheet piled Shaft Construction – up to 10m deep. 1500mm diameter HDPE lined manholes.
Outcome / Key Features
Due to a realignment, several manholes and associated sewer pipes ran beneath high voltage power cables. A Caisson Shaft was built reducing the risk of overhead electrocution.
Killard managed the installation of all the sheet piles and excavated the shafts with a telescopic excavator with a clam shell bucket up to 10 metres deep.
Complex Temporary Works with hydraulic bracing were installed to support the sheet piled shafts as excavation continued.
Management of micro tunnelling contractor and installation of PVC carrier pipes between shafts.
Construction of the manholes occurred in phases as the shafts were being backfilled.
Killard designed and installed a safe access to the sheet piled shafts with intermediate platforms and davit arms that was recognised by Sydney Water as an innovative solution.
