Project Background

The new M12 motorway will provide direct access to the Western Sydney International Airport at Badgerys Creek and connect to Sydney’s motorway network. The motorway would provide increased road capacity and reduce congestion and travel times in the future. It would also improve the movement of freight in and through Western Sydney.

Scope Of Works

Killard’s scope of works involved the installation of Sydney Water Enveloper Pipes to TfNSW R11 & Sydney Water Specifications:

    • Installation of a range of DN450 to DN1350 Class 6 RCP pipes at 17 different locations, by open cut trenching, totaling 3,100m, including the supply of all materials
    • except the supply of RCP pipes
    • Loading and unloading of RCP pipes
    • Design and Installation of a dewatering system including dewatering of a dam
    • Traffic and vehicle management
    • Provision of geotechnical and testing requirements in line with Sydney Water specifications
    • Testing and commissioning
    • Provision of waste classification and disposal of excess material
    • Coordination and management of environmental and safety controls onsite
    • Site restoration.

Outcome / Key Features

The location of works was on M12 Motorway crossing which will be part of future upcoming motorway (M12).
Future utilities will be crossing under this motorway through the RCP pipes installed by Killard at later stage by others in order to avoid delay to construction of Motorway.

Bulk earthworks were carried out with huge movement of large plant and machines including but not limited to:

    • 4-5 x 35T Excavator
    • 1-2 x 30T Excavator
    • 1 x 23T Excavator
    • 1 x 5T Excavator
    • 2 x 30T Dump Truck (Moxy)
    • 1 x NDD Truck (Vac Truck)
    • 1 x Water Cart (10,000L)
    • 1-2 x 5T Padfoot Roller
    • 1 x 18T Wheel Loader
    • 2-3 x Tool Truck
    • 2-3 x 2t Tipper
    • 5 x Site Ute
    • Site Containers

Spoil management was carried out by setting up environmental controls and different stockpiles in order to avoid any contaminated with the materials that were tested.
Vehicle management plan was completed and used to coordinated delivery of pipes delivery, movement of pipes from laydown areas to site, backfilling materials and movement of material to and from stockpile to site
The program for works were scheduled with a given time frame to be completed and project was carried out under given program without any delays to this project.
