Project Background
The Canberra light rail network, also known as Canberra Metro, is a light rail system serving the city of Canberra. The initial 12-kilometre line links the northern town centre of Gungahlin to the city centre (Civic) and has 13 stops. Services commenced on 20 April 2019. A stage 2 extension of the line south to the Woden Town Centre is currently being planned.

Scope Of Works
Killard construction work involved:
-
- Storm water pipe laying – Southern section (over 4 kilometres)
- FRP works for cast-insitu pits
- Water & Sewer works for ICON Water
- Stormwater rehabilitation (Northern) with Cure-in-Place Pipe (CIPP)
- Quick lock stainless steel patches into existing stormwater pipe
- Fibreglass patching of electrical and telco conduits
- General civil work – Intersection rebuilds, excavations
- Condition assessment of stormwater network with CCTV
- Laying of combined services route conduits (electrical & telco) across intersections during shutdowns-Night/Weekend work.
Outcome / Key Features
Achievements:

- Safety awards to some of Killard crew leaders for going above and beyond
- Management of multi-skilled portions of the project
- Installation of underground utilities in congested areas of the Canberra CBD
- Day and night works to minimise community and traffic impact
