Wingecarribee Shire Council embarked on a program of water main renewals in response to the blow outs of existing mains. The entire program runs for two years with the option of a further two years.
This project within the program consisted of replacing a 375mm cast iron water main on the Illawarra Highway at Sutton Forest, which was considered critical infrastructure.

Original plan for replacement was to pipe burst the existing line however due to the shallow depth (risk of heaving) and proximity to a TfNSW road, the decision was made to use a combination of open cut and directional drilling.
